Learning
How to help students to be more confident when delivering a presentation?
Help students to be more confident when delivering a presentation.
Learning is the big idea of this project which then my team decided to specify the problem into learning in terms of public speaking. We got the idea from our own experiences; we all feel scared in doing a presentation or doing public speaking at least once in our life.
In fact, from the research we conducted, we found that 75% of people suffer from a fear of public speaking (NBCNews Health, 2013). From the interview that we conducted to several people, we also found that 6 out of 7 people feel nervous when delivering a presentation.
Synthesis
When presenting, people often find it difficult because they are nervous. This nervousness happens because they have stage fright. When people are nervous, their mind goes blank, they stutter, and they can't control their body language. To solve it, they would need to feel more confident. To feel more confident when delivering a presentation, we need to practice a lot with other people so we can get beneficial feedback to enhance our presentation delivery.
So, we want to create an app to help speakers identify their pace, filler words, and intonation when speaking to help them practice delivering a presentation.
After doing research and found the problem we want to solve, we then also conducted an interview. From that interview result, we created 3 personas of our user.
First persona is someone who is nervous but has lack motivation in doing presentation
Second persona is someone who likes and feels confident in doing presentation because they are well prepared
Third persona is someone who always feel nervous and scared of doing presentation even when they have prepared for it
During the progress of this project, we pivoted our app's idea several times, from an app where we connect public speaking experts to our users until we finally settled to make an app where it can directly provide feedback about the user's presentation when they practice. Since the term practice for presentation is too broad, our team then decided to focus on these three aspects:
